Local Leaders In Bed Bug Control

Bed bugs were once for a short time, eradicated in the United States. With an increase in international travel, however, and a growing resistance to pesticides, bed bugs have made a full resurgence over the last twenty years. It is no longer uncommon to find bed bugs around Baltimore.

How Did I Get Bed Bugs?

It is a common misconception that bed bugs are related to uncleanliness. The truth is bed bugs are prolific hitchhikers and excellent travelers. They often infest cargo holding areas like the trunk of a taxi, a luggage compartment, or a hotel closet. Bed bugs prefer dark, tight spaces, and have even been known to infest seats in movie theaters. All they need to survive is a dark space and a source of blood nearby. They can also travel on clothing, in the seams of furniture, and in bedding. They are very difficult to get rid of because they multiply quickly and can hide in any small space imaginable.

How Do I Know If I Have Bed Bugs?

The key to effectively removing a bed bug infestation is early detection. If you think you might have a bed bug infestation, check your mattresses, furniture, and bedding for the following signs:

  • Bloodstains on the mattress or in bedding
  • Itchy bites under arms, behind knees, on sides of your body
  • Pin-sized copper colored eggs in mattress or furniture seams
  • Brownish/red or copper colored bugs crawling on furniture or mattresses

Can I Get Rid of Bed Bugs on My Own?

At-home, over-the-counter treatments for bed bugs are very unreliable. Many DIY treatments do not kill eggs or treat the source of the infestation. The source of the infestation may be in an area that you didn’t consider. It’s nearly a guarantee that you will waste a lot of time, money, and energy, and incur a lot of frustration if you attempt to treat bed bugs by yourself. You may even see the problem escalate during the time you try to treat it on your own.

It is important to note that even with professional intervention, it may take a few treatments to gain control over bed bugs, depending on the severity of the infestation. Bed bugs have a multi-stage life cycle and treatment will require reaching every stage of that life cycle to be effective.

On the Fly Bed Bug Treatment Plans

On The Fly offers the most effective forms of bed bug control on the market. Before any bed bug service, our friendly state licensed technicians will perform a thorough inspection to identify the scope of the infestation. Once that is determined, we will recommend a customized treatment plan for your needs and budget.

Heat Treatment

Heat treatment is a revolutionary option when it comes to treating bed bug infestations. All bugs, including bed bugs have a thermal death point, meaning they cannot survive when the temperature increases. Using specialized equipment, we bring the temperature in your home or up to 120 degrees for a couple of hours. During this time, the heat will penetrate spaces that traditional pesticides can’t reach. This temperature is only hot enough to kill all the bugs in the house and their eggs but it is not hot enough to destroy your valuable electronics or furniture. Heat treatments typically take between 4-6 hours including set-up and takedown.

Local Bed Bug Treatment

If caught early enough, local treatment may be an option if the infestation is still small, or if heat or fumigation is not practical for the space being treated. Local bed bug treatment is also ideal for customers working with a smaller budget. Local treatments typically take between 3 – 6 weekly appointments.

There is no escape for bed bugs – or any bugs – during fumigation. Bed bug fumigation is a comprehensive service that gets through in tough to reach areas like the cracks and crevices around your home and the space between walls. Fumigation also has the added benefit of removing other infestations like termites, ants, and spiders. Fumigation typically takes 48-72 hours with set-up and takedown and customers see 100% success rates after service.

All bed bug treatments come with their own pre-treatment checklist to help customers prepare their homes. Our friendly technicians are happy to answer all of your questions about any of our bed bug treatments. Remember, that ignoring a bed bug problem will only increase the time it takes to get control. On the Fly came highly recommended by a friend and I totally see why. He was on time, wore a mask (I appreciate that), was SUPER THOROUGH and really nice. We got indoor and outdoor preventative on our new house before moving everything in. He made recommendations on how to lessen the spider activity and put traps out near damp areas to catch bugs.I couldn’t have been more impressed honestly. I’ve seen my parents exterminator come in a couple times and he was in and out in no time. Ken did everything he could throughout the house and outside and didn’t just quickly do the job and leave. Thank you so much for everything!!!!read more
